Course Q&A with an AI teaching assistant your team approves.

Luminate drafts an answer the moment a student posts, then holds it for a TA to review, edit, or endorse. Students stop waiting for help, and TAs spend less time answering the same questions over and over.

A Luminate thread: an AI draft reply labelled 'Not yet reviewed by a human', with Edit, Regenerate, Reject and Endorse controls above it.

What happens when a student asks a question

Four steps, every time. The third one is the reason instructors let this near their course.

  1. 1

    A student posts at 1am

They ask on the course board instead of pasting the problem into a chatbot that has never seen your syllabus.

  2. 2

    Auto TA drafts in seconds

It explains the concept and names the next step to try. It is labelled as unreviewed from the moment it appears.

  3. 3

    A TA reviews it

Edit the wording, regenerate it, reject it outright, or endorse it. The draft cannot be verified without that decision.

  4. 4

The class sees a verified answer

The reply is marked with the name of the person who approved it, so students know exactly whose answer they are reading.

Step four, on the real board. Until a name appears on that green badge, students see the reply as a draft.

You decide what the AI is allowed to do

Luminate is built for instructors who are open to AI in their course and unwilling to hand it the keys. The teaching stays yours; the repetitive first pass does not have to be.

Luminate course settings showing three switches: Auto TA drafts, Socratic Tutor, and Anonymous questions, each with a short description.
Course settings. Turning off Auto TA stops drafts immediately, for every question, without touching the rest of the board.
  • Nothing publishes unreviewed

Every AI draft carries a label saying a human has not checked it yet, and it keeps that label until one of your TAs endorses it.

  • It will not do the assignment

The tutor is guardrailed to explain the concept and name the next step. Ask it for finished code and it declines and hands the work back.

  • Any of it can be switched off

Auto TA and the tutor are per-course switches. Guardrails are set per assignment, so each assignment can have it's own criteria.

  • You see what the class is asking

Questions stay on the board where you can read them. Your dashboard reports how much of the answering was AI drafted and how much a human verified.

Three things it does that a discussion board cannot

An answer starts forming the moment they hit post

Auto TA reads the question, the topic tags, and any screenshot the student attached, then writes a guided reply while the question is still fresh.

Upload your handouts and lecture notes and it will consult the right one, so answers match how you teach the material rather than how the internet teaches it.

A newly posted question with the placeholder 'Auto TA is thinking' below it, noting that it drafts a guided reply rather than handing over the answer.

Similar questions are detected before they post

As a student types their title, Luminate surfaces the question your TAs already answered and offers to open it.

Most of them read it and never post. The ones who still have a gap ask a sharper question, because they have already seen what was covered.

See what the class is stuck on before the exam

Every question is tagged by topic, so the board doubles as a live map of where your students are struggling and where they are fine.

It also tracks how long students wait for a human reply, and what share of your answers were AI drafted versus human verified.

Why we built this

One of us was the TA answering the same question for the fortieth time that week. The other was the student watching classmates wait hours on the course forum, then get an instant answer from a chatbot that had never seen the syllabus and had no reason to stop short of handing over the solution.

Students should not have to choose between help that is fast and help that is actually teaching them. Closing that gap is the whole product.
